Stressed
Recently I decided I’d make American style blueberry pancakes. Great idea. I had all the ingredients, including home grown blueberries in the freezer. So, a mixing bowl – nope, packed that. Food mixer – packed that too. Oops. In the end, I used a large saucepan as a mixing bowl, and used my handheld electric whisk. It worked well, which proves that you can do all sorts with only limited equipment. The pancakes were lovely, and I have some wrapped for another morning. Sorted. House hunting isn…

Plans
Plans never seem to work for me. I plan something, and it invariably goes pear-shaped so now, I rarely bother. This week however, the Plan was to go to my sister’s house, follow her to the garage for some work her car needed, then we’d go shopping in my car and have lunch. Well, as always, the plan didn’t work. I arrived to find her on the phone, looking very stressed. Her car wouldn’t start. Dead as a doornail as they say (what is a doornail?) The breakdown people wouldn’t arrive for almost 2 h…

...need a time out .../ Brauche eine Auszeit...
February 20th, 2017 ...for a while for personal and family reasons. I will continue to look at the fine pics here and comment and upload every now and then, but I have to attend to more important things (believe me, there are some ;-)) more often in the coming months. Please keep in touch anyway, I have not left for good. Update April 8th: By now this has become a 24/7 job (and I am doing that with great devotion). The time I can spend here is very limited and I will utilize it mostly on…

2018-01-26 Newsflash
[EN] Dear members and friends of ipernity! 1) We are glad to inform you that we have found an external IT service provider for the maintenance and further development of our website. A priority kick-off meeting has already taken place. First and foremost are the security aspects, further cost-cutting measures and the replacement of Skrill by a more reliable payment service. 2) The design draft for the future homepage was also presented to the service provider for implementation. You c…

Please don't "hide" your PiPs/notes
A general wish to all who use PiPs/notes on images. Please consider placing them close to the top left corner. Unless, you indeed wish to point out some spot on the main image. On modest sized displays, when notes are put more on right and close to bottom of the main picture, the less one can see of them on smaller display. The rest of the images becomes hidden outside of the display. And if there is no option to open them separately, then no chance to see them as a whole. Go ahead sh…

Value For Money
Here, wind and rain has been lashing the Ship, and whilst a gentle wind is nice for swinging in a hammock, when it’s whistling around the Ship and keeping me awake, then it’s not so good. Sunday, it rained all day. It didn’t stop. Monday was slightly better, and I managed to half-dry some towels on the rigging, however Tuesday has dawned wet, again, and looks set for the day. Honestly, I think I’d rather snow than this rain; at least snow looks nice! Packing is going well, however the ‘cheap’…

Just nipped down to the beach for a quick minute
Well today Ann took me to the doctors to have my dressing changed. The joy of that was that the nurses decided I didn't have to have any dressings any more, all I had to do was wear these compression stockings every day. That's fine by me, the only thing is that I have severe bruising on my bad leg and the discolouration may well be permanent. No problem - when we get some sunshine, I'll get a tan and the bruising won't stand out so much!! Or else I'll get spray tan and do it that way!!!! Any…

It Begins...
Now that Christmas is over with for another year, I’ve started to go through the cupboards to see what I haven’t used in a long while. With a move this year, it seems prudent to do this and if I haven’t used something in ages, then I clearly don’t need it. The attic has been cleared out, now it’s the turn of the cupboards. I took 2 carrier bags of serving bowls and vases to the local charity shop. Nice items, however they have no monetary or sentimental value to me, so somebody else will hop…

PC ist altersschwach / PC is suffering from old age - Update August 2021
[EN] Jan, 10th, 2018 Meanwhile the mainboard and the CPU in my actual desktop PC are 6 years old. Time to think about an upgrade, the more so as the AMD APU (A6-3650) does not support high resolution monitors and with every new release of Lightroom or Photoshop everything becomes slower. And it should be an AMD CPU again, because the intel world is totally alien to me. Since I wanted to keep my 16 GB DDR3 RAM for cost reasons (latest technology DDR4 RAM would cost me an additional 200…

2018-01-14 Payment Options & Bank Account
[EN] Dear members and friends of ipernity! Some of you may have noticed that membership renewals via Skrill are not possible any more. We tried everything to keep this payment option. However on 3 January 2018 Skrill made the decision to terminate services with IMA without notice or reason. We believe the decision was made because of volume requirements. It is common that other customers of Skrill suffered the same inconveniences. We are now exploring possible alternatives and their fea…

2017-12-31 Happy New Year 2018
[EN] Against all odds A year–end message from the ima–Team It was in December 2016 when the founder and CEO of Ipernity S.A., Christophe Ruelle, announced the closing of the platform ipernity.com by January 2017. (1) It’s now the end of 2017 and ipernity is still online. What happened? Of course, members were scared, disappointed and started looking for alternatives to Ipernity. But true alternatives were (and are) hard to find. Quite a bunch of users moved over to flickr – bu…

I'm Ba-a-ack!
Hi all, It was good to get away for awhile, and now I'm happy to be back with renewed energy to photograph and post images. During the interim I was away, I upgraded to an iPhone 7 Plus just for the camera feature. It didn't cost me any more to get it than if I had chosen the regular Iphone 7. It was exciting to discover the merits of this phone camera, and I must say that it is truly a large improvement over any other iPhone camera I ever used (and I really liked the 6s a lot). Last week I h…

I am so blessed with my neighbours.....
Richard from next door popped over this afternoon and brought his hedge trimmer with him and proceeded to attack the hedges and the branches which had overgrown tremendously over the past few weeks. I think it was just an excuse to see my new lawn mower which came the other day!!!! My older lawn mower gave up the ghost last week, I'd had it over 12 years and it had been second hand when I got it from a thrift shop for the grand sum of £10!!!! So it had served me very well, so I had to order a…

Finally!
After goodness knows how long, we finally had a dry day here on Sunday. Saturday was forecast dry, however we had thundery showers in the afternoon that left about quarter inch of water in the trough. We’ve awoken to rain again on Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday are also forecast to be wet. Sunday was lovely though, and I managed to shin up and down the rigging no fewer than 3 times. Now, I have a huge pile of ironing to do. I also managed to pull a whole bucket of weeds though the Ship’s Dog…

Blast from the Past
I love breakfast. By morning, after not eating since about 5pm the previous day, I really enjoy my breakfast, be it toast (my all-time favourite), muffins (a rare treat) blueberry pancakes, bacon sandwich, porridge, muesli… The choices just go on. Like any normal pirate, now and again, I do like a bowl of cereal. Recently though, I had a bowl of cornflakes only to discover they were really stale. I’m the only one who eats cereal with milk, so it’s rare that I finish a box before they go stale. I…

Monsoon
Of late, in my part of the world, we’ve had about half inch of rain a day, every day, for the past 5 days. I know this because I have a large plant trough on the deck that I’ve taken the plants out of, and each day I’ve emptied it into a bucket, and then into the water butt. That’s a lot of rain. Especially for July. Sunday the day started bright and sunny and I quickly climbed the rigging and put out some laundry. It was almost dry when I noticed the skies darkening. I quickly shinned up the…
