  • Rain Stops Play ...

Just wanted to apologise for not being around much of late. I'm afraid my wife has been in hospital and so much as I love ipernity it has had to take a back seat. Thankfully, my wife is now back home and improving each day, but it might still be some time before I am able to get back amongst you properly. In the meantime, I hope people will still visit my photostream and get some enjoyment from the photos I've posted in the past. Please forgive me though for not having time right now to…

  • Valentine’s Day 2016: Tragedy, Temperature Records, and Love

    Frigid Valentine's Day
When my brother, Don called me to let me know the temperature in NYC had dropped to –1º F, I had just left church with plans to take a few local photographs. Prior to mass, I had documented a pair of blooming dandelions and several crocuses in the –3º F cold in my neighborhood. Knowing that the temperature had fallen below zero F only a handful of times in NYC during my life (this was only the 7th time to be exact) and it hadn’t done so for a record drought of 22+ years, I decided to race to…

  • Amour,

  • Pippin had other ideas when I started to work....

I started to cut out more material......
I am still making more cushions - this time for my son and his wife and I was all ready to start cutting out the material........ This time I'm using yellow, blue and white for the colour scheme - Pippin decided that he wanted my full attention........... First he jumped onto the couch and I stroked him but obviously not enough - cos.... I stroked him some more...... obviously not enough yet....... I just couldn't cut out any material as you can see - he was determined to get my…

  • This is how gorgeous my Pippin really is....

    My beautiful boy
Some people have said that my Pippin is a lovely looking cat and that was because of a photo I put up yesterday - now to me that picture wasn't a good one of him, so I've looked back and found some photos of him which shows his lovely face and eyes... He's such a gorgeous cat, very loving and he loves to snuggle in [when he wants to that is.. LOL]. I hope the above pictures show him in a better light.

  • Well the odd flower is still hanging in there...

The last of the pansies which have been flowering since April
Despite the fact that it's November and it's getting increasingly cold, some flowers are trying desperately to hang in there. I went out into the driveway and saw that there were very few flowers still blooming... The pansy is almost obliterated, but it comes back time and time again. I think this plant is about 5 years old. I really must plant some new ones next spring.... There's a little bunch of mallow sprouting up and although there aren't many flowers h…

  • Pussy cats on the beach

    received 10207909560276208
Yesterday we were on the beach and had some gorgeous visitors. This cat looks so like Mandi's cat, Minoche, that she actually convinced me that he'd come down to the beach. It was only when I saw him face on, that I saw it wasn't. (feeling gullible )!! Then we had two gorgeous kittens join us. They were so sweet and friendly. They belonged to the hotel next to the one that D works in. Aren't they sweet? They had loads of cuddles from Mandi an…

  • We had a glorious sunset today

This was only a 5 minutes show
Hi there folks, it seems that I can come on to this site at times but as far as Facebook etc is concerned, it's really hit and I miss. Anyway the weather today has been mainly good but there were some clouds and as such, there was a stunning sunset. The problem with this is that this far down near the equator, it only lasts about 5 minutes, so you really have to move to catch one! As you can see, it was gorgeous. I think I'd better go just in case the…

  • An Extraordinary Migration

Summer’s heat lingered well into September this year. The mercury soared to 97°F (36.1°C) on the 8th day of the month and 87°F (30.6°C) on the 18th. Yet, despite the sometimes furnace-like breath of stubborn summer, the days were growing steadily shorter. Each morning, the sun seemed to sleep a little longer. Each evening, the sun departed a little earlier. Each minute of daylight became a little more precious. Each hour of darkness seemed to stretch beyond what should have been allotted. Th…

  • I Begin a New Chapter in Life...

If you haven't seen as much of me in the last week or so, it is because I am training for my new job as an Americorp volunteer coordinator. It is intense and comprehensive. This job is actually a one year contract for the purpose of working with my assigned non-profit organization to execute a plan to effectively recruit all the volunteers they need for the coming year. It is also my responsibility to set in place a sustainable plan that the organization can use to continue recruiting volunteers…

  • I took advantage of some warmth........

The lovely view across the river
Well this morning dawned all blue sky and it was unusually warm. I did what I had to do today and by 3.30pm I decided that it would be nice to get out and visit Instow. There aren't going to be many more days this year where sitting on a bench at the seaside is a good idea, well at least without a cardigan, coat, boots, hat and gloves LOL. So off I toodled, and upon crossing the new bridge, the strong whiff of countryside hit me................ they were fertilising the fields - oh I do feel…

  • Painting with Soap at the New York Hall of Science

Near the end of August, my family and I went to the New York Hall of Science in Corona (Queens). This museum features some 450 exhibits and displays related to science, technology, engineering and math. Outside the museum, is a nine-hole miniature golf course with a range of holes designed to teach basic principles of space science. For example, the first hole features a rotating circle with an opening. The goal is time one’s shot so that the ball passes through the opening when it is availa…

  • After the rain.................

    DSCF6774
Well it might have rained here this morning, but the sun came out this afternoon and it brought jewels in the garden........... I didn't go outside, just leaned out of the lounge window and looked at the montbretia and the beautiful diamonds left for me to marvel at........ See there's beauty in everything.....

  • Just a quickie really....

As you all know I have Mickey here and he goes home tomorrow, so I've not really got much time left. When I'm back on my own again then I'll have time to catch up with you all. We've done nothing today and we're both suffering with really bad backs - and poor Mickey has a 7hour train journey tomorrow. So I'll be in touch with you lot either tomorrow or Wednesday. I just want to say though - Mickey is one helleva guy - he's been so helpful to me and has done some jobs that have been waitin…

  • The Fog Comes (Then Moves On)

In 1878, Carl Sandburg wrote: The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on. Nearly 140 years later on April 3, 2015, Sandburg’s descriptive poem transcended the paper on which it was written. The words leapt off the pages and a thick blanket of fog rolled across the Long Island Sound on “little cat feet.” For a time, it sat over the water, shrouding Long Island and also the landscape across Larchmont Harbor in…

  • The wild flowers are abundant...........

The bright yellow of the rape seed
Yesterday when I went for a quick drive in the afternoon, I went via the back roads and it was an absolute joy for me....... The wild flowers were copious and all over the place - the bright yellow of the rape seed was lining the road, making it so beautiful as if the sun was out all the time....... I suppose when it was sown in the fields, we had those really strong winds and they were blown all over the place - their loss... our gain........ As you can see - they are wonderful - I…
