Another sunny morning here so with the canopy roof job delayed until tomorrow I decided to effect a repair on my ailing back door. the bottom quarter of the door is rotten and coming adrift. With the expenditure of late, the train fair to Jenny's plus fuel and internet/phone bills there is no way I can afford a new door for a week or so. I could go into debt for one but I don't do debt,if I haven't got the funds for anything I wait until I have.An old fashioned outlook but the old saying “Out of debt out of danger” is very true.

I took the rotting bottom of the door off and managed to get two panels that had sprung back in,on reassembling the door I noticed it was still not weatherproof. I scoured around for timber to make a panel to completely cover the rotting part but had none. I checked with my son Stephen,John and Bimbo with no luck. Allan is my main source of timber but he was out. The only thing to do was have lunch while I waited. A couple of hours later he returned and I gave him the dimensions and off he scurried.10 minutes later he returned with a suitable board not only cut to size but he drilled the required holes in it and even supplied the screws. He is a good lad,I owe him one,in fact I owe him a lot more, he does much more for me than I do for him.

15 minutes later I made the door good, for the time being at least. A lick of varnish will finish the job. I am so lucky to live in a street where we all muck in and help each other.
I have Gooseberries and blackcurrants ready to pick which I will do tomorrow and give them to him ,I should get 2 or 3 big bowls of each to Sue can bake some pies and fill the freezer with the rest. With four sons and two daughters she will be busy.

Oh Dear Summer may be over here comes the rain
