A blustery day with a threat of showers here did not deter me from escaping for a while. I donned my walking boots and parka and headed for the beach.I found that rather chilly so I returned and put the rest of my clothes and socks on and set out once more.
There was 20mph westerly blowing in with gusts that were making it difficult to hold my camera steady but I did get a few shots Reaching the corner at Thorny nook with the right hand side of my face feeling like ice I peered down the lane looking for flood water and sure enough I found some. A couple of riders were picking their way through and it didn't look too deep. I took a photo on zoom and checked it on the camera screen. I thought there was a chance I might make it so set off.I had a good look when I reached the water's edge before carefully plodding my way through. Luckily the road has a steep camber and I made it with about half an inch of boot top to spare.
It was sheltered from the wind down by the village and a pleasant walk back home lay ahead. Most of the horses from this side of the island have gone off to winter quarters but I did snap a couple.
I had given up on finding something interesting to photograph when just as I was approaching the houses and the main road a spotted a curlew,he was a long way off and the big zoom was required but I did get a couple of shots before he flew off.
From there it was only a ten minute stroll home and a welcome coffee.
Photos here.
