Composer. singer and actress Amanda McBroom wrote "The Rose" featured on the album "Dreaming". The song was written before the hit movie. Amanda's father was David Bruce whose film appearances include "The Sea Hawk" and "Sergeant York".
Bette Midler recorded "The Rose" for the soundtrack of her 1979 film of the same name. Incidentally this was her motion picture debut earning her a Golden Globe for Best Actress. The single peaked at number three on Billboard while topping the Adult Contemporary chart and won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal performance.
