Exclusive rights to "Lady Of Spain" (Tolchard Evans - Erell Reaves) were given to Jack Payne in 1931 after the composers failed to get anyone else of note to record the tune. Jack and the BBC Dance Orchestra were first to record the tune in March of 1931. The vocalist is Val Rosing.
In 1952 Eddie Fisher with the Hugo Winterhalter Orchestra had a great deal of success with "Lady Of Spain" when the single peaked at number six on Billboard.
During the forties "Lady Of Spain" (Tilsley - Evans- Damerell -Hargreaves) became well known as a piece for the accordion because of the number of regional and national broadcast talent contests won by Dick Contino who recorded the tune in 1954 with the David Carroll Orchestra. Dick is known as the world's great accordionist and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show almost fifty occasions.
