(Paul) Simon and (Art) Garfunkel's first recording of "Mrs. Robinson" (Paul Simon) was for the 1967 movie soundtrack of "The Graduate". At this point there is only a resemblance to what would become a great song. One of my personal favourtites "Punkey's Dilema" had been presented and rejected by director Mike Nichols before "Mrs. Robinson" won the day. It was a tune called "Mrs. Roosevelt" the duo had been working on previously.
The 1968 album "Bookends" contains the chart topping hit version of "Mrs. Robinson" with Hal Blaine on drums. This won the Grammy for the record of the year. According to Wikipedia the phrase "coo-coo-ca-choo" was a homage to the Beatles "I Am the Walrus".
