This track is from Jackie DeShannon's 1968 album "Laurel Canyon". Tom Calder, Marianne Faithfull's former manager gave an interview to Mojo Magazine in 2008 saying the song was written in L.A. when he was with Jimmy Page who had an affair with Jackie. "One night I couldn't get into our hotel room because Jimmy and Jackie DeShannon were shagging. So I yelled, "When you're finished could you write a song for Marianne?". This was the result.
Marianne (Marian) Faithfull (details elsewhere in this blog) hit the Billboard top thirty and peaked at number four in the U.K. with "Come and Stay With Me".
