[EN] Hello to you all,
The ipernity team presents to you all our very best wishes for the new year!
Since the announcement of ipernity’s shutdown, we received many proposals and messages of support either from users and businesses.
With the help of several community members, especially Claus-Peter, Paul (autofantasia), Eric Desjours, and, William Sutherland, the idea that ipernity could be managed by the community has made its way and seems to be the most realistic solution.
We have postponed the date of closing to late February to allow us more time to study this perspective.
We will publish in the very next days a new article with accurate informations about it.
In the meantime, we invite you to join the following groups to participate in the ongoing discussions:

We would like once again to thank you for the support you have shown us for so many years.
See you soon,
Christophe & the Team.

I believe the people behind the member association have the best interests of the site at heart, but I do fear it's all going to prove to be too little too late. It seems that we're going around in increasingly smaller circles and talking to an increasingly small group of people.
And what really gets me is how it all seems to be getting done with such a sense of urgency, which really doesn't make sense given how long the uncertainty has been going on. Those who have been around for a while will remember the 'elephant' campaign at the end of 2015 that arose from all the uncertainty that there was throughout 2015 over what Team Ipernity were doing (or not as the case may be) and what the future held for the site.
On the back of that hundreds of people came forward not only to express their fears, but to offer suggestions on what might be done to 'save' ipernity and many offered to work directly with Team Ipernity much in the way that people have recently with the mooting of a possible member association.
Yet fast forward nearly 2 years and here we all are having the same conversation, but now we know for a fact that we only have a few weeks or months at best to find a solution and all because the people that had the power to act failed to do so. Those offers of early assistance were never taken up or the ideas acted upon and so I fear that despite the good intentions of those seeking to establish the member association face an extremely difficult if not impossible task ahead of them.
Team Ipernity say that increasing membership to what they felt would have been an 'acceptable' level would not have been enough and yet surely 2 years of increased subscriptions would at the very least have delayed the possible closure of the site?
Team Ipernity say they can't mail every user for fear of triggering some sort of spam alert amongst the many ISPs and email providers and yet they could have surely done as you have suggested and broken such a mailing down into smaller chunks?
Team ipernity say we only have days to complete the survey, but why did they not enact such a survey weeks if not months ago?
Not that getting answers to any of these questions really matters now, I mean we are where we are.
However, I think the very fact that over a year on from the 'elephant' campaign people are still having to scrape around looking for answers and uncertainty still hangs over the site like some Sword of Damocles does not bode well, which is a huge shame because this is such a great site to be a part of and the user interface is by far the best out there.
PS I love your suggestion of how close we are to the moral of the story of the Sword of Damocles
" The parable later became a common motif in medieval literature, and the phrase “sword of Damocles” is now commonly used as a catchall term to describe a looming danger. Likewise, the saying “hanging by a thread” has become shorthand for a fraught or precarious situation. And that is exactly where we are. Nailed the point you good thing Paul.
