The building, apparently from the 16th century, appears quite simple architecturally, with only a small porch resting on simple classical marble columns. Also simple, but of granite, is the main door, topped by an oval porthole. In turn, the interior surprises us with the impressive profusion of tile panels, the ones in the nave being attributed, by Túlio Espanca, to Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes, Lisbon's great master of this art in the 18th century. This set, which is the ex-libris of the church, represents themes from the works of Mercy, the Life of the Virgin Mary, the Marriage of Esther and the Beheading of Holofernes.
