Healthy lunch !

15 Apr 2024 28 32 81
Were I live we are lucky to have natural (organic) products all year round. I always eat seasonal and local, had the luck in my life to be able to do so wherever I was. Nowadays eating non contaminated products is more and more a scarce option but I stick to it as much as I can. Here, for Sunday Challenge SC92, Food, www.ipernity.com/group/daysincolour365 , this week: Orange/grapefruit/lemon juice from the orchard. Salad from the garden. Home made bread (I am not the baker,) with figs and almonds, organic local flour. Ham from free-range black pigs fed on acorn. No wine that day, I was due to drive !

Snail in regeneration

27 Jan 2024 24 21 81
Usually the spiral grows with the snail. But if injured they have the capability to regenerate as long as the center of the spiral where its vital parts are situated is unharmed. If you walk on a snail you can try to save it: take it home and put it on a small box on top of a lettuce leaf. Prepare the folowing mixture: powder an eggshell with a pestle and mix in equal parts with wheat flour, place on the lettuce leaf next to the snail. It takes about a week to get better.

Rumina decollata, Achatinidae, Penedos

AKA Decollate snail SC91 - Miracle A miracle for me because we almost never see them any longer. In the last 30 years 80% of small animals in nature are no more to be found... The decollate snail (Rumina decollata) is a predatory snail that feeds on other snails, slugs, and the eggs of various land mollusks. Despite the fact that it will occasionally consume plant material too, this species is well-liked by gardeners because it keeps gardens free of more destructive snails. Decollate snails burrow into the soil to ride out cold or dry conditions.
