Switzerland August 2015
Swans - Lake Zurich
Back from Switzerland after a longer-than-anticipated stay involving family matters. Not many opportunities to take pictures and didn't bring my cameras, but such snapshots as seem worth sharing I will share soon.
And of course looking forward to catching up with the recent work of my talented photographer friends!
Pastorale
The more things change ...
yes, there are still a lot of cows in Switzerland. This bunch lives on top of a low mountain above my hometown. Lots of hikers to gawk at for entertainment.
Lake Zurich
I wasn't there to take pictures nor was I particularly lucky with those I took on the odd excursion. A couple turned out okay or at least had some humor/pathos ...
Old Men of Switzerland I
Two very flawed attempts at capturing something of a dying generation.
This old boy was dressed in the colors of his fraternity for a reunion, looking in vain for his fellow bros
Old Men of Switzerland II
Two very flawed attempts at capturing something of a dying generation.
I would have like to get a closer shot of him, but he was no fool ...
The Dance of the Hours
Posted this view before (on "that other" site.) It continues to interest me, philosophically as well as visually.
By way of explanation, my hometown of Grenchen has few distinctions, one of them being the place where billions of Swatch watches were and are being made.
Hotel De Ville, Grenchen
Officially, Grenchen is German-speaking but close to the "language border", it chose the French term for its city hall because it just sounded so much better than "Stadtverwaltung."
My family lived a few houses away, and my earliest memory is sitting in a stroller in front of this building, waiting for my mom. In those days, mothers didn't think twice about leaving their babies or small children outside when doing a quick errand. Not even sure I would have been allowed inside, any more than a dog ....
Old Villa, Grenchen
My hometown is emphatically working-class, but there are a few stately villas left from the time of the watch barons.
Path
These two are from a walk I took at dusk. Will have to go back there with a real/better camera that can do the job properly.
