the west wall of the nave is possibly the oldest bit of the church, at least as old as the early c11 lower parts of the tower. the three main openings are saxon, though may have been altered in the later c11; the upper ones probably led to a gallery and loft. to the top right can be seen the beginning of the long and short work of the tower, indication both of the height of the church roof and proof that the nave was built of stone
