full sized figures of angels are carved beneath the hammerbeams of the late c15 roof. the wings seem to have been shot off, as the figures are speckled with buckshot holes

I suspect that woodworm played a greater role in the loss of most angels' wings, but here the pattern of holes seems to always be on the upper body, and may be shot. I'd like a closer look and more proof if possible, like a bit of lead, though both arrow heads and shot are quite common finds in roofs, which could just indicate a problem with birds or bats. at outwell each angel has similar holes across the upper body even though their wings are carved close to the beam and could never be shot off, though attributes such as st. michael's scales have been destroyed. many wings were sawn off and stumps left; it's the ragged nature of the damage here that makes me consider shot damage, though there seem to be no holes behind or around the wings, so it's hard to be sure.
