dragons fill the diaper background of this detail of the flemish brass of abbot de la mare, who died in 1397. the brass is earlier, say 1360, as prelates rarely had offspring or a will to pay for tombs and generally provided for themselves during their lifetimes. a saint alban holding a cross and a sword stands in the niche to the left . on the right there's an agnus dei on the crosier.
