milton abbey house, dorset

gatehouse on the north front of the courtyard house built by chambers in 1771-4 in a gothick that was clearly not to his taste. he keeps everything as classical as he can get away with, and even then referred to the place as a vast ugly house, resigning most of the interiors to wyatt. like many of the larger houses round here, it is now a school.
