st.magnus the martyr, london

st.magnus the martyr, london
wren reredos of 1676; the additions of angel figures and the crucifixion were done by martin travers in 1924-5 in his somewhat soapy style. there are worse additions by travers and laurence king in the way of altar statues etc. in the church, which look to me like lip gloss on a sage. Their work generally both before and after the war never seems to improve churches, especially when they have made spacial changes; details lacks any subtlety, altarpieces in particular have qualities similar to shop window dressing .
