st.botolph bishopsgate, london
view of north side of church , rebuilt in 1727-9 by dance the elder and his father in law, james gould. towering over it is one of the dreadful glass boxes that pass for architecture nowadays, banal and oppressive structures that ignore humanity, humour, beauty, all the things that make architecture a joy. these things are a blight that never should have been allowed in the historic heart of our capital. I've nothing against new building, lloyds and the gherkin are at least interesting; what I really abhor are the big boxes and their disregard for their environs.
