st.paul covent garden, london
the church was built by inigo jones in 1631-3, fronted in stone by hardwick in 1788, and rebuilt by him in 1795-8 after a fire. butterfield did his stuff in 1871, removing galleries and shifting things about .

this early c21 fountain is in the grounds of the church, and is in the form of an oyster shell with at one end the head of a triton, beautifully designed as if a green man of the seas. a great pity that the water seems to have dried up, and that this is rather hidden away down one side of the church.
