sudbury st.gregory 1381 archbishop sudbury

sudbury st.gregory 1381 archbishop sudbury
chancellor of salisbury,,bishop of london, archbishop of canterbury and author of the poll tax, simon sudbury was dragged out of the tower and beheaded during the peasants' revolt. his head was stuck on a spike on london bridge before ending up here, the rest of him going to canterbury where he has a big tomb. quite a lot of skin and even an ear still adhere to the bone. he sits in a box in the vestry, having probably been kept in hope of his sanctification and the financial gains that would have brought.
