The new houses you showed us earlier in Dumbarton, I can see are styled on this type of building, so I am wondering if this one is being fully demolished or for renovation?
Cheers, Rosa.

The original plan, Rosa, was to renovate the Mill Building and turn it into apartments, but the company went bust. Houses have been built on the site.

This is what it looks like now.

Thanks for your very kind comment.

I used to go the top of the Mill Building, Rosa, when I worked in the whisky industry.

In former times the mill was surely an impressive building.

They have torn the heart out of this area. Yes - we know that people need places to live, but the mill building should have been restored sympathetically and made to provide apartments. In Shrewsbury there is also an old mill which is being converted into apartments that should be finished this year. The outside of the mill remains the same as it was.

Unfortunately, the company that made the Mill Building conversion plan went bust, Amelia. In the Parish Church hall, there was a computer-animated simulation of what the area would look like after the conversion. It looked very impressive, but, alas, came to nothing. The Mill Building stood derelict for years before it was eventually demolished. It had to be taken down practically brick by brick, as it was too close to other buildings to be safely taken down by explosives. You can see what the site looks like now by following this link.

Thank you very much for your link to the BBC News article about the Shrewsbury Flax Mill. I found it very interesting.

All the best,

Joe
