Campbeltown the Mainland Island

Campbeltown the Mainland Island
People have lived at the head of this loch since before the Bronze Age and what was once the tiny settlement of the 3rd century became Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain, "the head of the loch of the church of St Chiarain". This became Campbeltown when the 7th Earl of Argyll covenanted to found the Burgh. It became a Royal Burgh in 1700, celebrating its 300th anniversary with the millennium.
