Great portraiture! And the background is telling a story on its own right, which absolutely adds to the frame.

You did apply quite some sharpening (or local contrast I assume), which worked great on the little lady, but at the blurred background it did not work so well. I would rather suggest to work with two layers and take the background from an unchanged version and only the foreground from the processed image. The masking would be a piece of cake in that image because the brightness is forgiving.

This said, it is still a fantastic image and the littel lady will surely be thankful to have such an image of her instead of the standard child takes that you see all around.
