Mixed feelings, yes. I hope Seth will find himself, what else he’s looking for, and above all: his way home unharmed...

or just Status Quo:

A vacation in a foreign land
Uncle Sam does the best he can
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Now you remember what the draftsman said
Nothing to do all day but stay in bed
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

You'll be the hero of the neighborhood
Nobody knows that you left for good
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Smiling faces as you wait to land
But once you get there no one gives a damn
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Hand grenades flying over your head
Missiles flying over your head
If you want to survive get out of bed
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Shots ring out in the dead of night
The sergeant calls (stand up and fight)
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

You've got your orders better shoot on sight
Your finger's on the trigger
But it don't seem right
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Night is falling and you just can't see
Is this illusion or reality
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now
You're in the army now
Oh, oh, you're in the army now

Oh, oh, you're in the army now

nothing else for him to do but playin cowboy? :-(

I don't know the meaning of you posting this Carl...but I will tell you...this wasn't something he chose just for kicks or nothing else to do...this was an agonizing fight/debate between the two of us and him with himself I'm sure, for over 2 years...many ups and downs and battles...in the end...he feels (and it's his life) that this is something he is called to do or meant to do in some way...no matter how much I dislike this choice or feel it's not for him...he has chosen this path, on his journey, who knows the lesson(s) he will attain from it...but it is obviously something he has to experience for himself...and no matter my personal beliefs and just plain ol fear as a mom...I support him and I'm damn proud of him...

My intention? This was the first to come into my mind lookin at this picture...
And to my opinion and from what you told here on iper bout him it seemed to me him being an intelligent guy and it gives me fear to see intelligent men getting caught by those pied pipers( do you say that?) Sorry for me bad english, I'd like to explain it better than I'm doing here...

re read my whole comment Carl...this wasn't a whim or getting caught up, yes you are right he is very intelligent...and has a mind and heart of his own...I do understand what you are saying but apparently you are not understanding what I am...

Well I think I get quite good what you want to point out but nevertheless I just can't get into my head what makes intelligent people go and join that society...
To put it precise: it's nothing against him or you, please get me right and I believe your as well as his struggle if or not! What I am interested in is the things that made him feel "having to do this" ye know?!
If it is the general opinion young people in the US do have or if anything else brought him there.

The best way I can explain it to you Carl is this: he and I fought debated battled over this for over 2 years...and he did with himself as well...he felt like he was suppressing this "call" within himself in doing so...he felt/feels this is something he (he personally) is called to do...it is coming from within him...no it's not the general opinion of young people in the US.
this was something he personally is choosing...in the end...no matter my personal beliefs...this is his life his choice...and a goal he is wanting to achieve...for his own reason(s) within himself...that maybe he doesn't fully know or understand...but he has chosen this path...and I'm proud of him and support him.

Yeah, for sure you have to support him, you're his mum!! Anything else would be not acceptable!
No, you still don't get me, I believe:
I wonder WHAT made his opinion up going in that way? What made him answer the call, for as an intelligent guy he is he should know where this way can lead to.
I don't know if you know the way it worked in Germany when I was his age: first of all our army at that time was no army but germany's biggest adventure playground :-D for boys...
I as well have chewed it over and over if I should go there or if I should deny service. At that time every young man had to go and you had the chance to deny for several reasons, but with my hobby no one had believed me so I made the best out of it for me. HE has every chance not to do it, so what makes him answer?
I'm sorry luv, I can't explain it better I'm afraid. :-(

Carl dear I get you...YOU are not getting me or my explanation
SETH in his heart and soul and conviction felt this way
NO one persuaded him NO one urged him on
just the opposite
NO army guy told him this is great do it
this came from with in him...something perhaps he couldn't exactly put into words
HE felt it as a calling
believe me NONE of his friends support him most of our family are not happy
so he was alone in this calling he felt this strongly about
I don't know how to say it clearer...and I love you dearly :-)
but after this I don't care if you understand that he had every chance and chose this
that is YOUR opinion
and I have mine actually very close to yours dear
but this is Seth and his journey...
but I hug you anyway :-D!
