Whangamomona is a small settlement on the Forgotten World Highway in the center of the North Island 65 kilometres north-east of Stratford and 55 kilometres south-west of Ohura. This quirky little town is its own republic complete with presidents. However, only two presidents have been human. The others have been a duck, a goat, a turtle, etc. .It has passports and passport stamps to ensure safe passage through Whangamomona. It’s just NZ$2 to get a Whangamomona stamp in your passport. The legendary Whangamomona Hotel is the most remote country hotel in New Zealand. It is just across the road from this photo.
