When I was small I used to call these buds.

This wild broom was growing in the midst of a very large patch of yellow broom. Although broom is very common here it is the first time I have ever seen this colour.

Mānuka honey is a monofloral honey produced in New Zealand and Australia from the nectar of the mānuka tree. The honey is commonly sold as an alternative medicine

The purple toad flax is a real nuisance. It's pretty but comes up everywhere.

Kumarahou is a traditional Maori medicinal plant that grows in the upper part of new Zealand's North Island. It is still used for a number of conditions. Uses include for respiratory problems, as a blood purifier, as a tonic and for rheumatism and gout. Maori medicinal uses: fresh leaves of Kumarahou were applied to wounds. Wounds were also bathed in an extract collected from boiling the leaves. It flowers about mid September. It is commonly called “gum diggers soap” as a slight lather can be formed when its flowers are rubbed with water.
