i don't know, I saw the history of elvis when I was a kid on tv and instantly didn't want to do anything but rock-n- roll, a friends dad was going to take us to see elvis in 1977 and just a month before we could go the guy was murdered not to far from where I live. Then a month later elvis died. I didn't know too much about punk until 1978, by then it was all over, in any case, sometimes people use guns and gamble with their lives. Who knows. I wouldn't blame parents, I'd look more at the social structures implemented by the schools and how these things are interweaved with in the larger economic and cultural infrastructure of the particular scenes.
