The main square, which, per a joke from the guide, had an impressively long name in Russian having to do with the sixtieth anniversary of the October Revolution. Not a terse language, Russian... The town looks considerably less bleak here. Felt more like visiting a summer camp in the winter time.

Imagine Chernobyl, but without an inch of radioactive dust over everything. Everything left behind was in remarkably good condition after nineteen years of abandonment, apart from water-damaged parquet floors in a couple rooms upstairs.

While I thought the music room was more subtly disturbing, the most common overheard descriptor for the dance instruction room among the other tourists was "creepy". Might have been due to the dresses hung here and there, like ghosts.
