Kitty Condo

Four of my beloved cats. From the top down, Pooper, Luki, Ludlow, and, Lady. They almost always used the same compartments, although sometimes two would share one together. Pooper is the only cat I ever bought. The others more or less turned up at my door. All are now departed but still reside fondly in my memories. Taken in 1987. (Scanned 35mm negative)

Cc and Dainty

Cc and Dainty were born wild. Their mother looked just like them and had two litters of two kittens each before I was able to catch her and have her spayed. Dainty was from the first litter and Cc the second. I already had four inside cats so they all remained outside. After two of my inside cats died and two of the outside kittens disappeared one weekend I brought Cc and Dainty inside. They were used to being fed by me and were not as feral as their mother, but it took years before they decided to accept me. By the time Cc, who was my last cat, died at the age of 18, he had become one of the most affectionate cats I have ever had. Scanned 35mm negative. (9E912)

Cc

Cc was born wild and had lived outside the first three years of his life when I brought him inside. He would not let me touch him until he was about 11 years old, but then for some reason he decided to accept me and became one of the most affectionate cats I have ever had. He lived seven more years and died at age 18. He was my last cat because I had resolved to be pet free, but remained so for only two months until my first dog, Otis, came into my life quite literally by accident. (111003 02)

Lady

Lady came into our lives many years ago on a bitterly cold winter day in Illinois. It was about 20degrees below zero. My son heard her crying while waiting for the school bus. She was in a storm sewer. We did not know the school bus was not coming that day - Lady's first piece of good luck or no one would have heard her. The second piece of good luck was that my car would not start the morning so I had not left for work when my son came home in great distress over her. He had managed to get someone to call animal control and had waited in the cold for them to come as he had been told to do. But when they arrived, they did not see him and just drove off. I went with him to see if I could get her to crawl out on a scarf I dropped down for her, but she didn't. So I went home to wait for my father who was coming to give my car a jump. When he arrived he took charge. Got the grill off the sewer and reached down to get her. That's when we discoved she was frozen in the ice. We chipped her out and the rest is history. She lost half her tail and the toes on one of her back feet. We named her Frosty but, she was such a lover she was always underfoot rubbing on our legs. My father dubbed her Lady Underfoot, which became shortened to Lady. We had her for fourteen years. (Scanned negative)

Luki

Luki is not a purebred. His mother was a stray tortoise shell who chose my garage to have her babies. Scanned 35mm negative. (r022) Another Link in the Chain - Linking a feline hood ornament to a real feline

Ludlow

Named by my son after a well known Atlanta radio personality. Ludlow came to us as a very sick adult stray that the vet thought would not survive. We had him for 14 years. He had all the traits of a ragdoll cat. Scanned 35mm negative (t010)
