Guernica exists, I saw it.
I don't have a picture of it -- but finding it, walking up to it in breathless awe and misty eyes is something I'll always remember. For a few reasons:
1) It happened to be 9/11 that day. The chaos of Guernica mirrored a day that will resound in me for the rest of my life.
2) In the 7th grade, my favorite teacher introduced us to Guernica. About the horror of war. And about art as protest. I knew right then that someday, somehow, I would travel to Spain to see it. It took me nearly 18 years, but I finally did.
