Mood light coaster - power supply

This is based on a dc/dc boost converter sucking energy from 2x AA cells and boosting the voltage up to about 4.5V. This little module (available at Pololu) is adjustable from 2.5-9.0V and depending on the boost-factor it can deliver several 100s mA to the LED board!
