South Italian potters and painted experimented with a variety of forms and techniques. This askos (literally, a wineskin) includes the sculpted, mold-made head of a woman serving as a spout, a painted depiction of Eros (god of love) on the front, and a relief-beneath the handle-of Actaeon, a mythical hunter who was devoured by his own hunting hounds after he accidentally saw Artemis, the virgin goddess of the hunt, bathing.
