Description:

Obverse, Athena with goose
Reverse, Nike (the personification of victory) with phiale (libation bowl) and bird

The goose was traditionally associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. Here, a startled goose is addressed by Athena. The shape of the skyphos is a special variety with one vertical, one horizontal handle.
