Detail of a Statue of a Poetess in the Vatican Museum, July 2012

Detail of a Statue of a Poetess in the Vatican Museum, July 2012
Statue of a Poetess
Acquired in 1802 from the Franzoni brothers.

The presence beside of the seat of a bound "volumina" suggests that the statue represents a poetess. The body is a 2nd century AD Roman copy of a 4th century BC original. The head, instead, with its crown of laurels, was added in modern times and can be dated to the 1st century AD.
