Statue of the Emperor Tiberius

Inventory # 1511

Found in Priverno by the British painter Robert Fagan and acquired from Giuseppe Petrini before 1806.

The sculpture dates after 37 AD, the year in which the emperor died, and together with other imperial portraits, was part of an iconic cycle set up in a public building of the Roman colony.

Text from the Vatican Museum label.
