Etruscan Terracotta Head of a Youth in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sept. 2007

Etruscan Terracotta Head of a Youth in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sept. 2007
Terracotta Head of a Youth
Etruscan, 3rd-2nd century BC

Accession # 11.212.13

Stylistically, this type of head is ultimately derived from Hellenistic Greek prototypes and was especially popular with sculptors working at Cales, a city northeast of Naples. The head was originally part of a full figure that may have adorned a pediment.
