Etruscan Handle in the Shape of a Lasa in the Getty Villa, July 2008
Handle in the Shape of a Lasa
Etruscan, 350-300 BC
Bronze
Patera handle

Inventory # 96.AC.34

In Etruscan myth Lasas were divine attendants of Turan (goddess of love). This Lasa stands with her wings upraised, nude except for her elaborate jewelry and soft slippers. She holds a perfume flask in her left hand. The figure was originally attached as a handle to a patera (shallow bowl), which was used to pour water for bathing, purification, and ritual offerings.
