As described by Aeschylus in his Oresteia trilogy, Clytemnestra bares her breast in supplication to her son Orestes, who intends to kill her. In the upper right a Fury, a female spirit of vengeance, advances toward Orestes, wielding snakes to torment him for his crime of matricide.
