Detail of a Wall Fountain in the Cloisters, Sept. 2007

Detail of a Wall Fountain in the Cloisters, Sept. 2007
Wall Fountain
Marble
France, early 20th century (Romanesque style)

Accession # 35.51 a-d

Although acquired as a 12th century original from the monastery of Notre-Dame-du-Vilar (Roussillion), this fountain is probably a forgery based on Romanesque decorative forms of the Pyranees, such as those of the Cuxa Cloister.

Text from the Cloisters label.
