Kalmia leafing out

Kalmia leafing out
Kalmia angustifolia is a lovely plant with flowers that are so pretty that the grandfather of a friend of mine had a stained-glass panel put in the transom over his front door saying KALMIA. And that remains the name of the house today, a hundred years later.

A day or two ago a friend of mine and I, combined ages just about 140 years :) , walked down a trail to a beach we both like. Coming back up we saw a lot of bushes starting their leafing out, including this one.

I called it Kalmia, but to be honest, this early in the spring, I cannot tell the difference between Kalmia and Ledum groenlandicum. But the old flower bracts on this one had the pentangular shape I associate with Kalmia flowers, so I *think* it is that.
