In April 2010, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens named a candy-striped orchid hybrid in memory of the late founder and owner of Sarris Candies. Sarris, the son of Greek immigrants, started his chocolate enterprise with a single store in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; it has since grown to be a large regional candy company.
