"St. Earth Walking" – Desert Botanical Garden, Papago Park, Phoenix, Arizona
The "St. Earth Walking" statue by sculptor Robert Wick watches over the Steele Herb Garden. According to the artist, this 14-foot creation personifies Mother Earth. The figure is cloaked in a mantle of vegetation. Her head, body and arms are reminiscent of forms derived from rocks and a mesa environment. Above her head is a shattered halo suggesting the earth's altered state due to the presence of humans and our destruction of her earth body. Nonetheless, the figureboldly moves forward, a hopeful symbol of the power of nature to survive.
