Marble Relief of a Dionysaic Procession – British Museum, Bloomsbury, London, England

Marble Relief of a Dionysaic Procession – British Museum, Bloomsbury, London, England
A marble relief depicting part of a Thiasos, or Dionysiac procession. The foremost figure is a maenad playing a tympanum or tambourine. The second is a young satyr playing a double flute. The third is a satyr carrying a thyrsus and attended by the panther of Dionysus (Bacchus). Roman, about 100 CE. Found in 1776 by Gavin Hamilton in the Villa Quintiliana at Gabii, an ancient city of Latium, located 18 km due east of Rome along the Via Praenestina, (which was in early times known as the Via Gabina).
