San Francisco Bay Trail – Crissy Field, Presidio, San Francisco, California
Crissy Field was transformed starting in 2001 from a former military airfield into a vibrant environmental showcase. Today, the restored Crissy Field is a stunning place to walk or bike on a flat, hard-packed promenade with iconic views of the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. A beautiful, and much-loved trail winds through Crissy Field between Marina Green and Fort Point.
Visitors can enjoy the beautiful San Francisco Bay shoreline while running, walking, rollerblading, or biking the Golden Gate Promenade. This popular trail, part of the regional Bay Trail, runs the length of Crissy Field to Fort Point and up to the Golden Gate Bridge. Along the pathway, natural and historic treasures are framed against the San Francisco skyline and the Marin Headlands. Crissy Marsh gives both casual observers and enthusiastic birders an opportunity to enjoy a salt marsh, rich with wildlife. The western end of this trail leads visitors past former airplane hangars that have been repurposed for indoor recreational uses, then up and around old coastal gun batteries, finally ending at the Golden Gate Bridge. Beach access is provided along the length of the trail.
