Sharing the Riches of the Land #4 – Mosaïcultures Internationales de Montréal, Botanical Garden, Montréal, Québec
Edmundston is a city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It is the location of the New Brunswick Botanical Garden (NBBG). The NBBG features eight thematic gardens within its eight hectares (21 acres) site which allow visitors to discover a wide variety of both indigenous and non-indigenous plant species. For instance, the Herbarium and its pavilion house over 100 plant species used for medicinal, aromatic, cosmetic and decorative purposes, and also offers an educational program featuring workshops and conferences. The Celestial Garden, Khronos, presents an interactive installation where the Earth, humans and the universe come together. During the entire summer season, the Welcome Pavilion, features the Butterflies of the World exhibit. This exhibit is housed in a large, indoor aviary where visitors can visit and walk amongst the living butterflies.
Since its opening in 1993, the NBBG has incorporated a Green Plan, serving as an example for the community, in emphasizing the importance of protecting the natural resources by adopting eco-friendly practices wherever possible.
The NBBG ‘s mosaiculture installation provides a visual representation of the regions shared rich, natural resources, history and culture. The Garden has partnered with the Madawaska Maliseet Community (the Wolastoqiyik Nation) to present, Sharing the Riches of the Land, as part of the Mosaïcultures 2013.
