Isotria medeoloides

These beauties were photographed at Tin Mountain, west of Conway, New Hampshire. It is a very rare orchid, and we were privileged to be able to photograph it on one of the Native Orchid Conference's sponsored field trips. For the trip report, please check out Jim's Blog .

This morning, I saw some images of this orchid species that had been taken in Georgia, so I figured that the ones I know about must also be in bloom. I drove 2.5 hours to the site, and sure enough, I found a single plant in bloom. This particular population seems to be in decline, but that might just be the cycle that some orchid populations go through. This is a very, very rare orchid species, and I am happy to find even one in bloom.go through.
