Neottia smallii (Appalachian Twayblade orchid, Kidney-leaf Twayblade orchid)
The morning broke cloudy, so I took a brief trip up to the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, North Carolina to see some mid-June wildflowers. The gravel forest service road off of the main road that I usually travel to see these species was gated, for some reason, so I had to walk from the gate rather than drive. The two-mile hike was good for me though.
