Platanthera conspicua (Southern White Fringed orchid)

Platanthera conspicua (Southern White Fringed orchid)
This is the part 2 of 2 of my annual, mid-summer trip to the Carolina Coastal Plain. A couple of new friends from the D.C. area wanted to meet up with me in the Green Swamp Preserve to see what we could find to photograph. I also asked my good friend and photographer, Kelvin Taylor, to join us.

For some reason, probably the drought along the coastal plain, the orchids were at least a week late getting started. But we did find a few that were in bloom. The scene-stealers, though, were the multicolored hybrid Milkweeds that we found growing along the roadside.
