Weekend trip to the Green Swamp Preserve area to shoot the local native orchids and whatever other wildflowers we could find.

My buddies, KT, Skip, Larry, and Lauren joined up for a wonderful weekend of photography in one of the botanical treasures of the US, The Green Swamp Preserve. This area is renowned for its carnivorous plants and native orchids, and this weekend was the height of bloom for several species.

Calopogon pallidus is quite variable in its color as well as its shape. The typical color is light pink, but it also appears as pure white, deep pink, and a mixture of white and pink on the same flower. The shape usually includes dorsal sepals that sweep upward almost like angel wings. Commonly, only one or two flowers will be in bloom on a stem at one time. The flowers are slightly less than one inch wide...
