La place Royale, appelée aujourd'hui place des Vosges est la plus ancienne place monumentale de Paris. Construite à l'initiative du roi Henri IV à partir de 1605, sur l'emplacement de l'ancien Hôtel Royal des Tournelles. Des architectes Louis Le Vau (1612-1670), Louis Métezeau (1581-1652) et Claude Chastillon (1559-1616) auteur de l'hôpital Saint Louis et peintres participeront à sa réalisation comme Charles Le Brun, Pierre Mignard etc..
